Explorer 540 Inmarsat BGAN Satellite Wi-Fi Hotspot
The Explorer 540 Inmarsat BGAN Satellite Wi-Fi Hotspot runs on the Inmarsat satellite network and provides your devices with a 464 kbps internet connection.
The Explorer 540 is very similar to the Explorer 510, however the Explorer 540 is specifically geared towards installations and applications at fixed locations.
Unlike the 510, the Explorer 540 does not come with a battery, mains charger, or carry bag. However it supports 10-32VDC input as well as Power Over Ethernet (PoE).
Also included with the Explorer 540 is a pole mount kit and all required cables for long-term outdoor installation – you just need to add LAN cable of 1 to 100M length.
The Explorer 540 does not come with a voice handset, but does have a SIP server built-in and thus a SIP phone can be easily connected to the Explorer 510 via LAN.
For M2M (Machine to Machine) applications, the Explorer 540 also has I/O ports that can be connected to external sensors for remote control and monitoring purposes.
Additionally, the Explorer 540 is available with an optional 4G modem for least cost routing, enabling it to use cellular when available, and satellite connection if not.
***Explorer 540 is available with significantly cheaper airtime if you go the contract/subscription route. See our Inmarsat BGAN airtime contracts for details.
